I've only learned about this Alpine recently, and because I barely know anything about it, maybe the two cars can't even be compared. But I found that the two cars look and perform similarly, so which one would you chose?

I personally think the Alpine is very cool.

I should say Esprit, but I think i would fit in the Alpine's cabin better, and it is even rarer.

Take one EG33 Subaru flat 6. Rebuild with EJ22 pistons and cam profiles. Add twin turbochargers.

Take one Subaru 5 or 6-speed manual, FWD configuration, or converted to 2WD.

Flip the transaxle's differential over to reverse the output rotation.

Install into Alpine chassis facing 'backwards'.

Create Anti-911.

An A610 would be even better. (successor to the A310 and GTA)

I'll take the Renault because like the glutton for Gallic punishment that I am I want yet another car that will get strange looks, ignorant comments, and will resolve me to a reality of having to say "it's pronounced Al-peen" for the rest of my ownership experience. It's the sort of thing you must make peace with when you own a "Ray-nault"

The Lotus design just looks ''right''. It has aged so very well, even by today's standards this is a great looking car. I would have one in my dream garage in a heartbeat.

I am sure as a daily driver it would not be even close to being practical but as a weekend fun machine to drive through the twisty mountain roads perfect point and squirt machine to clip the apexes with. Keep the revs up and the turbo spooling and the exits from the corner will keep you focused with a nice firm shove in the back.

Esprit, because I almost got one instead of the Citroen C6 we bought. I didn't really want to take the risk of it breaking down too often.
